  • Setting & leading the strategic direction for the department
  • Line managing post holders in the department KS3-KS5
  • Ensure a high quality of leadership within the science department.
  • Carry out in house peer and formal observations of teachers delivering science lessons and ensure they are provided with meaningful feedback and targets to ensure continued improvements in Teaching and Learning.
  • To stay up-to-date with new initiatives in Teaching and Learning and to ensure they are implemented in the department.
  • To be responsible for setting challenging targets and improving KS2 – KS5 progress.
  • To co-ordinate the tracking of academic progress at KS3, GCSE & A Level / BTEC.

CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION – Head of Science

  • Qualified Science Teacher with UK QTS
  • Strong academic ability and experience teaching to KS5
  • Experience teaching in high-performing schools beneficial
  • A team player who can guide and mentor other teachers
  • Prior middle leadership experience essential, i.e Head of Bio/Phys/Chem, Head of Key Stage, 2iC etc
